David M. Brewer

Lieutenant Colonel David Michael Brewer was born on June 12, 1959, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.  He grew up in Baton Rouge, and graduated from Louisiana State University with a B.A in History and Russian Area Studies (double major).  He entered the Marine Corps through the PLC program, and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in July 1982 at Quantico, VA. 

After completing The Basic School (7-82, Golf Company) at Quantico, he was assigned to Marine Air Support Squadron-1 (MASS-1) at Cherry Point, NC.  He attended the Air Support Control Officers Course at MCAGCC, 29 Palms, CA (Honor Graduate).  During his time with MASS-1, Second Lieutenant Brewer participated in various exercises in CONUS as well as in the NATO exercise Team Work 84 in Norway. 

Second Lieutenant Brewer was transferred to Marine Air Support Squadron-2 (MASS-2) at Futenma, Okinawa in August 1984.  He participated in various exercises in Okinawa as well as Valiant Blitz 84 and Team Spirit 85 in the Republic of Korea (ROK).  Besides his normal duties as an Air Support Control Officer (7208), he also served as the MASS-2 Intelligence Officer. 

First Lieutenant Brewer was separated from active duty at Camp Pendleton, CA in September 1985.  He remained in the Inactive Ready Reserve until December 1989.

After separation, he returned back to Baton Rouge, LA and pursued a career in computer operations and then programming.  He also began attending Louisiana State University in 1986 and received his M.B.A. in May 1990.

In December 1989, Captain Brewer joined a Selective Service System joint service detachment drilling in Baton Rouge, LA.  At this time, the Marine Corps had allocated 12 Individual Mobilization Augmentee (IMA) billets to support the Selective Service System.  During the next four years, Captain Brewer served as an Area Office Manager for 10 parishes in central Louisiana.  He was responsible for the recruiting and training of the volunteer Review Board members from these 10 parishes.  These Review Board members would adjudicate any claims received when mobilization and the draft began.  Captain Brewer also verified 18 year old male registration compliance by visiting Post Offices, high schools, colleges and universities.  Captain Brewer was awarded the Joint Service Achievement Medal during this time.

Captain Brewer then joined the 4th Marine Division in New Orleans, LA.  From 1993-1994, he worked in the G-4 section.  He participated in Pinnacle Advance at 29 Palms.  He was promoted to Major during this time. 

Major Brewer joined 3rd Battalion, 23rd Marines in New Orleans, LA in 1994.  He was the Assistant Air Officer for his first two years at 3/23.  His Annual Training (AT) included a CAX in 1995 and Cold Weather training in 1996.  Major Brewer also volunteered to support the NATO exercise Battle Griffin 96, where he served as a Marine Air Liaison to JTF-North Norway.

Major Brewer became the S-2 for 3/23 in 1996 and attended the MAGTF Intelligence Officers Course in Dam Neck, VA.  He was the S-2 for the battalion until checking out in 2000.  He participated in various exercises to include a CAX, Urban Warrior in Oak Knoll, CA, Amphibious Operations Training in Coronado, CA, and a Hawaii AT.  He was promoted to Lieutenant Colonel in June 2000.

Lieutenant Colonel Brewer joined 14th Marine Regiment, Fort Worth, TX in December 2000.  He was a Liaison Officer in the MEF Planning Cell for the first two years at 14th Marines.  During this time, he participated in MEFEX and UFL exercises located at Camp Pendleton, CA.

Lieutenant Colonel Brewer became the 14th Marines S-2 in 2002.  For the next 3 years as Regimental S-2, he participated in a FireEx at Camp Pendleton, CA, a MEFEX at Okinawa, and two UFL exercises in the ROK.

Lieutenant Colonel Brewer was mobilized for Operation Enduring Freedom during the summer of 2005.  He was deployed to Camp Lemonier, Djibouti and served as the Deputy Director of Intelligence, Combined Joint Task Force-Horn of Africa (DCJ-2, CJTF-HOA) from September 2005 to March 2006.  He served as the Acting Director of Intelligence for over a month due to the Director’s absence.  He was responsible for over 70 intelligence personnel in the Joint Intelligence Center (JIC), which included all the military services as well as other governmental agencies (OGA).  Lieutenant Colonel Brewer was awarded the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT) Expeditionary Medal during this time.  Lieutenant Colonel Brewer remained on active duty until June 2006 and remained as S-2 with 14th Marines until dropping to the Inactive Ready Reserve in January 2007. 

From May 2006 to July 2008, Lieutenant Colonel Brewer was a non-resident student attending the U.S. Army War College.  He graduated in July 2008 at Carlisle Barracks, PA with superior ratings in Written Communication, Oral Communication and Research Ability.  He also received a Master of Strategic Studies upon graduation.

Lieutenant Colonel Brewer rejoined 14th Marines as the Regimental S-2 in February 2008.  Since rejoining 14th Marines, he has participated in a FST-J exercise at San Diego, CA, Texas Phoenix at Fort Hood, TX and Javelin Thrust 2010, where he served as the MEB G-2 for the exercise.  Lt Col Brewer was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal during this time.

Lieutenant Colonel Brewer retired from the Marine Corps Reserve on 1 August 2010 after 28 years of commissioned service. 

As a civilian, Lieutenant Colonel Brewer has worked for Louisiana Companies as a computer operator, computer programmer and Systems and Programming Manager.  He has worked at FIS and Fiserv as a Systems and Programming Manager.  Currently, he works as a Project Manager at Fiserv in Dallas, TX.

Lieutenant Colonel Brewer’s decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, Joint Service Achievement Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Selective Service Meritorious Service Award, Selected Marine Corps Reserves Medal (3), National Defense Service Medal (2), GWOT Expeditionary Medal, GWOT Service Medal, Korean Defense Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2), Arctic Service Ribbon, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (4) and a Certificate of Commendation.

Lieutenant Colonel Brewer is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), American Legion, Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) and the Marine Corps League (MCL).
